Junior Youth Caring for God's World

Yesterday junior youth from MCEC churches met at Rockway for the Junior Youth Breakaway. I think our youth had a really good time - and I did too!

The theme Caring for God's World, and the keynote speaker was yours truly! I hoped to inspire our youth to take their future into their own hands and lead the church in caring for God's creation. I picked up on the song How can we be silent? from Sing the Journey. The final line is "We will shape the future. We will not be silent!"

A brief summary of my message.

We will shape the future:
1 Timothy 4:12 says "Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." Essentially, youth are NOT the future of the church (I HATE when people say that)! They are LEADERS NOW. They can set an example for adults to follow in the choices they make to care for creation.

We will not be silent:
Youth can and should speak out to the church when it doesn't heed its calling. I encouraged the youth to be prophets - to bring a message from God to the church. And they did by making a video in the afternoon addressed to the church. You can see all the videos at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=jryouthbreakaway2009#grid/uploads

By being leaders today, our youth are shaping the future. Let's join them in caring for creation.
